Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of These Terms

By creating an account or otherwise using ContriKaro (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service (the "Terms") and to our Privacy Policy and Fair Use Policy, which are incorporated into these Terms by reference. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to use ContriKaro. By creating an account you represent that you are 18 or older and that the information you provide during sign-up is accurate. If we discover that an account belongs to a minor, we will delete it.

3. Your Account

You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials and your device secure. Anyone who can unlock your phone or sign in to your account may be able to view and modify your expenses and groups. Notify us at contriwisely@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

You may have only one account at a time. We may decline to create additional accounts intended to circumvent suspensions or fair-use limits.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use ContriKaro to:

• Break the law, or facilitate the breaking of the law.
• Harass, threaten, defame, or impersonate another person, including in shared groups.
• Send spam, scams, phishing, or unwanted promotional content.
• Launder money, evade taxes, or carry on unregulated financial activity that requires a licence we do not hold.
• Probe, scan, scrape, or interfere with the Service or its infrastructure, or attempt to access another user's data.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app, except where applicable law permits this.

Specific limits on volume and intensity of use are set in our Fair Use Policy.

5. Your Content

You retain ownership of the expenses, group names, descriptions, attachments, and other content you create in ContriKaro ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to host, store, transmit, and display Your Content solely to provide the Service to you and the people you choose to share groups with. This licence ends when you delete the content or close your account, except for backups that age out per our retention schedule in the Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for the legality of Your Content. Do not upload attachments containing other people's personal data without their consent.

6. Free-for-Life Commitment

ContriKaro's core features (the MVP feature set listed in our Feature Catalog at contrikaro.com/features) are and will remain free of charge for the lifetime of your account, subject to the following terms:

(a) Fair use limits apply

Your account may be subject to reasonable usage limits to prevent abuse, including caps on number of groups, members per group, expense entries per period, and storage. These limits are documented in our Fair Use Policy and may be revised with fourteen (14) days' notice delivered in-app or by email.

(b) Premium and future-tier features are not included

Some advanced features (designated "Premium" or "Future" in our Feature Catalog) are not part of the free-for-life commitment and may require a paid subscription if and when they ship. We will give you at least thirty (30) days' notice before any feature transitions from free to paid.

For clarity, any feature whose operating cost scales with user usage — for example, features that depend on paid third-party APIs billed per call (such as paid AI services, certain voice or OCR services, or SMS-parsing services with per-message fees) — is automatically considered a Premium-tier feature, regardless of which tier it was previously listed under. We commit not to migrate any feature from free to paid without the thirty-day notice in the previous paragraph.

(c) Account suspension for abuse

ContriKaro reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, including fraud, abuse, harassment of other users, attempts to circumvent fair-use limits, or use of the Service for unlawful purposes.

(d) Service discontinuation

"Free for life" applies to your individual user account. We do not commit to keeping the Service available indefinitely. If we discontinue the Service, we commit to providing at least thirty (30) days' notice and a data export tool so you can take your information with you.

7. Premium and Billing

As of this version of the Terms, ContriKaro does not bill anyone. When paid Premium features ship, we will publish pricing and a billing-specific addendum to these Terms covering taxes, refunds, renewals, and cancellations, and we will give you the notice required by Section 6(b) before any feature you currently use moves behind a paywall.

8. Disclaimers

ContriKaro is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.

ContriKaro helps you organise expenses among people who already trust each other. It is not a payment service, a bank, a financial adviser, or a tax product. Numbers shown in the app are based on what you and the people you share groups with enter; we do not verify them.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ContriKaro and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service. Our total cumulative liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or (b) one thousand Indian rupees (INR 1,000). Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations; in those jurisdictions our liability is limited to the smallest extent permitted by law.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold ContriKaro and its operators harmless from any claim, damage, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your violation of these Terms, your violation of the rights of another person, or content you upload to the Service.

11. Termination

You may stop using ContriKaro at any time and delete your account via in-app Settings or by following our Data Deletion procedure.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or the Fair Use Policy, or if required by law. Our default approach is graduated:

• Clear violations — including fraud, harassment, money laundering, deliberate spam, or repeated abuse of fair-use limits — may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account, without prior notice.
• Ambiguous cases — for example, a fair-use soft-signal that may have a legitimate explanation — will be reviewed manually. We will write to you first and give you a reasonable opportunity to respond before any action is taken.

Sections 5, 8, 9, 10, and 12 of these Terms survive termination.

12. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts located in India. Before starting formal proceedings, you agree to first contact us at contriwisely@gmail.com and give us a reasonable opportunity to resolve the dispute informally.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time as the Service evolves or as the law changes. The version number and last-updated date at the top of this page reflect the current version. For material changes, we will notify you in-app on next open and ask you to acknowledge the updated Terms before continuing to use the Service. If you do not agree to a material change, your remedy is to stop using the Service and delete your account.
