ContriKaro

Fair Use Policy

Last updated: 2026-04-29  |  Version 1.0

ContriKaro is committed to keeping its core features free of charge for the lifetime of your account (see Section 6 of our Terms of Service). To make that commitment sustainable, we apply the limits in this Fair Use Policy. The numbers below are starting drafts for the launch period and will be recalibrated against real-world usage. Any change that lowers a limit will be communicated with at least fourteen (14) days' notice in-app or by email.

1. Hard Caps

The following limits apply to each individual user account:

  • Active groups: up to 25 groups in which you are a member at the same time.
  • Members per group: up to 50 members in any group you create.
  • Expenses per group, per month: up to 250 expense entries created per calendar month per group.
  • Attachment storage: up to 500 MB of file attachments (receipts, photos) across all your groups.

These caps are intended to comfortably cover personal, household, travel, and small-team use. If you have a legitimate use that would push past them, write to us at contriwisely@gmail.com and we'll figure something out together.

2. Soft Signals

Beyond the hard caps, we watch for usage patterns that look more like automation or abuse than personal use. These do not lead to automatic suspension; they trigger a manual review:

  • Unusually high rate of expense, group, or member creation in a short window.
  • Unusually high rate of API requests or app actions per session.
  • Repeated failed authentication attempts or other indicators of credential-stuffing.
  • Patterns that suggest scraping data of other users or extracting data at scale.

3. Anti-Abuse

The following uses of ContriKaro are not permitted regardless of whether they fit within the hard caps:

  • Spam, phishing, or unsolicited promotional messages sent through groups or notifications.
  • Fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, or unregulated financial activity that requires a licence we do not hold.
  • Harassment, threats, or impersonation of other users in shared groups.
  • Scraping other users' data, or attempting to access data belonging to accounts other than your own.
  • Use of ContriKaro for non-personal-finance purposes that the Service was not designed for — for example, using groups as a public messaging board or as a substitute for a payment processor.
  • Automated or scripted use that mimics human activity at machine speed, except via interfaces we explicitly publish for that purpose.

4. What Happens When a Limit Is Hit

Our default response is graduated:

  • In-app banner. When you approach or hit a hard cap, you'll see a banner explaining which limit and offering options to clean up old data (archive groups, delete attachments) or contact support.
  • Manual review for soft-signal trips. If a soft signal trips, our team reviews the account before any action is taken. We aim to write to you first to ask what's going on.
  • Suspension for clear abuse. Activity that clearly violates Section 3 (Anti-Abuse) may lead to immediate suspension and, in severe cases, termination, per Section 11 of our Terms of Service.

5. Calibration and Notice

The numbers in this policy are starting drafts. We expect to recalibrate them based on the first 60 days of real usage after launch. If we ever lower a hard cap or add a new restriction that could affect your existing data or workflows, we will give you at least fourteen (14) days' notice in-app or by email before the new limit takes effect.

6. Questions

If a limit is preventing a legitimate use, or if you think a decision was made about your account in error, write to contriwisely@gmail.com. We read everything.
